Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker ReviewsCuisinart ice cream maker review (bear with me)…

Several years ago I bought a little book that tells you what all the additives are in your food. It gives you the name of the additive, what it is and what health problems are associated with that additive. I used to suffer from hayfever and as soon as I stopped eating the preservative that causes rhinitis, my hayfever disappeared. Since then I have been trying to make all of our food homemade with natural ingredients…

Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker Reviews…

1.Cuisinart ICE-100 Compressor Ice Cream and Gelato Maker Review

☑   For an excellent price on this Cuisinart ICE-100,Click Here

I’m starting with my favorite Cuisinart ice cream maker but it also happens to be the most expensive. So, if you really don’t intend to spend $200+ please skip over this one and see the less expensive ones below. But, this ice cream machine does more than all the other models. It has its own compressor built in. That means you don’t need to place the bowl in your freezer overnight before you use it.

Now, if you have plenty of room in your freezer there’s probably no need to get this super-duper Cuisinart ice cream maker. You can keep the bowl in the freezer at all times ready to use. However, if you’re like me and you’ve tried several different fridge/freezers and you can never find enough room for everything in the freezer, then you’ll love this option.

You can keep this Cuisinart ICE-100 Compressor Ice Cream and Gelato Machine on your counter or in a cupboard and it’s ready to go as soon as you want ice cream. There’s no need to remember to pre-freeze the bowl. This machine does all the chilling of the ice cream for you.

A small disadvantage is that it takes a bit longer. You’ll need about 40 minutes for ice cream with this model. The other reviews below will show you they take about half that time (but remember, you need to pre-freeze the bowl overnight or 24 hours in advance).

You also get a 60 minute countdown timer on this model. After the ice cream maker has finished it can keep your ice cream cold for another 10 minutes.

The mixing bowl holds 1.5 quarts and has a lift-out handle. It’s made of anodized aluminum.

You’ll get  two paddles. One paddle is for ice cream and one for gelato. Gelato doesn’t have as much air in it so this is the reason for two different paddles. The ice cream paddle is for more air in the ice cream.

If you want to make less than 1.5 quarts of ice cream you don’t need to fill the bowl. If you make a smaller quantity it also takes less time to freeze.

You get a clear lid on top with a little hinged window for mix-ins to be added during the churning process. To add nuts or choc chips you add these about 5 minutes before the end of the churning process.

With the Cuisinart ICE-100 Ice Cream Maker you pour your ingredients into the bowl first and then you put the lid on, lock it in place, select the timer and it starts churning and chilling your ice cream. This is a very simple way of making ice cream at home.

The Pros

  • No need to pre-freeze the bowl – always ready to go when you want ice cream
  • Very little hands-on time to make smooth creamy ice cream – it does all the churning for you
  • Very easy to clean with only 3 parts – the bowl, the paddle and the lid
  • Can make gelato as well as ice cream
  • Includes a touch control panel and 60-minute countdown timer with blue LCD readout.

The Cons

  • If you want more than 1.5 quarts then this is a disadvantage (although you can make a second batch)
  • More expensive (but you are paying for the advantage of a compressor)
  • Takes a bit longer because it is starting the freezing process from scratch (not a pre-frozen bowl)

Overall, I would suggest that anyone who wants to make ice cream at home should consider the Cuisinart ICE-100. It is a high quality ice cream maker from Cuisinart and it offers the convenience of a built-in compressor (this is what I love most!). You get all that convenience and yet it can still sit on your counter and look good. The exterior is stainless steel and would suit any kitchen.

2. Cuisinart ICE-21 1.5 Quart Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream Maker Review

☑   See today’s price on this Cuisinart ICE-21, Click Here

This is one of the most affordable ice cream makers you’ll find on the market. It comes in several different colors but the main color is white. The Cuisinart ice cream maker ICE-21 can make 1.5 Quarts of ice cream in 20-25 minutes.

There are a lot of happy customers who have bought this Cuisinart ice cream maker. At the time of writing, the Cuisinart ICE-21 has an average of 4.5 out of 5.0 stars for more than 4,000 reviews on Amazon. Now that’s impressive!

This Cuisinart ice cream maker ICE-21 is a high quality product with a heavy-duty motor that makes ice cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet in around 20 minutes. You can also make frozen drinks using the ICE-21. It does all the mixing for you and is fully automatic.

With this Cuisinart ice cream maker you will need to freeze the bowl for 24 hours in your freezer ahead of time.

Obviously, for this less expensive price you don’t get a compressor built-in like the Cuisinart ICE-100. If you have plenty of room in your freezer this should be easy.

You can keep the ice cream bowl stored in the freezer and it will be ready to go when you need it.

To check whether the bowl is ready you can shake the bowl and listen whether the liquid in the walls is moving or frozen.

You can buy an extra bowl separately and keep the two bowls in the freezer if you want to make a double batch or if you want to make ice cream twice on the same day.

This Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker ICE-21 does all the work of churning your ice cream. With this model you start the machine turning and then pour your ingredients into the top. You can add mixes like nuts or fruit later in the process.

The bowl is made of aluminum on the inside. It’s a double wall insulated design with fluid inside the wall which freezes.

Compare:   Cuisinart ICE-21 vs Cuisinart ICE-100

Obviously there is a big price difference between these two models, the ICE-100 is over $200.

The Cuisinart ICE-100 includes a compressor so it freezes the ice cream ingredients for you.

When you’re using the ICE-21 you need to freeze the bowl in your own freezer for 24 hours before using.

Both ice cream machines do the churning for you and they’re fully automatic.

The ICE-100 includes a countdown timer up to 60 minutes.

In the ICE-100 you’ll need about 40 minutes to make ice cream, whereas the Cuisinart ICE-21 takes about 20-25 minutes.

The ICE-100 can make a second batch straight after the first. However, with the ICE-21 you’ll need to refreeze the bowl for another 24 hours before making ice cream again.

Lots of people have tried putting the bowl back in the freezer for 2-3 hours to make another batch on the same day but this doesn’t work.

You’ll need a second bowl if making ice cream more than once every 24 hours.

With the ICE-100 it will keep your ice cream cold for another 10 minutes after it finishes the churning process. In the ICE-21 you need to remove the ice cream straight after churning because the bowl has lost its coldness by about 30 minutes and the ice cream will start melting.

The ICE-100 comes with a second paddle to make gelato. You’ll use the different paddle because ice cream has more air in it than gelato. So, with two paddles you can choose which frozen treat to make.

Overall, I prefer the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker ICE-100 because I never seem to have enough room in my freezer to keep a bowl in there. But, if you’re looking for a less expensive Cuisinart ice cream maker you really can’t go wrong with the Cuisinart ICE-21. It makes delicious ice cream and you can have it ready by the time you finish dinner, 20-25 minutes later.

3. Cuisinart ICE-20 1.5 Quart Ice Cream Maker Review

►   You can see today’s price on the ICE-20 Here.

This is an older model that has now been discontinued by Cuisinart.

You can usually still buy these models online. However, the newer model, Cuisinart ICE-21, is very similar in size but it has a different shaped paddle and it is more efficient at making your ice cream.

You may be able to pick up the Cuisinart ICE-20 for a cheaper price but from my own research the ICE-20 is usually a lot more expensive than the newer model. For the greater efficiency, I’d get the newer model, Cuisinart ICE-21.

4. Cuisinart ICE-30BC 2 Quart Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt and Sorbet Maker Review

☑   For a great price on this ICE-30BC, Click Here

If you’re looking for a larger Cuisinart ice cream maker then this model could be the one for you. The Cuisinart ICE-30BC is a step up from the ICE-21. The ICE-30 has a 2-quart bowl.

You freeze the bowl in your freezer overnight the same way you do for the ICE-21. The bowl is double insulated with liquid in the walls of the bowl which freezes and keeps the bowl cool for longer.

The interior of the bowl is aluminum.

The ICE-30 is made with a brushed stainless steel housing and it also comes in a red option which has both stainless steel and red in its appearance.

You can make ice cream, sorbet or frozen yogurt in the Cuisinart ICE-30. It takes about 25 minutes to churn the ice cream.

Compare:   Cuisinart ICE-21 vs Cuisinart ICE-30

The Cuisinart ICE-30 is obviously a larger machine. The bowl holds 2-quart versus the 1.5-quart bowl in the ICE-21.

Automatic ice cream makers do make a bit of noise. While they’re churning this is inevitable. Personally, I don’t mind the noise because if I’m making something in the kitchen this is what I expect from my appliances. However, if you are troubled by the noise you may like to choose the Cuisinart ice cream maker ICE-30 which is slightly quieter than the ICE-21.

The ICE-30 housing is made from brushed stainless steel whereas the ICE-21 is made from plastic.

The ICE-30 is a heavier ice cream machine that feel like more quality than the ICE-21. And the cog at the bottom of the machine that connects to the bowl to turn it is larger in the ICE-30 so I’m guessing it is easier on the motor and will last longer. However, I’m not an engineer so please make your own judgement on that one!

I think the biggest factor is the size of the bowl being larger on the ICE-30 and also the appearance. If you know you’ll being leaving your Cuisinart ice cream maker sitting on your counter then the Cuisinart ICE-30 really does look good in stainless steel.

If you’re on a budget, don’t go without. Definitely get the Cuisinart ICE-21.

5. Cuisinart ICE-60W Cool Creations Ice Cream Maker

☑   For details and today’s price on the ICE-60W, Click Here

This Cuisinart ice cream maker ICE-60 is very similar to the ICE-30 in size (they are both 2-quart) but the ICE-60 has other advantages.

The ICE-60 comes with 3 settings. These include settings for ice cream, gelato and sorbet. The different settings allow for different speeds to churn your frozen desserts. The other button on the touch panel is the start button.

This model does not include an automatic countdown timer. If you need a timer, see the ICE-70 below.

The ICE-70 has white plastic housing and a clear plastic lid with removable cup for mix-in spout.

As mentioned, the ICE-60W is very similar to the ICE-70 so let’s take a look at the other model…

6. Cuisinart ICE-70 Cool Creations Ice Cream Maker

☑   For an excellent price on the ICE-70, Click Here

The Cuisinart ICE-70 is very similar to the ICE-60 but it includes a countdown timer.

The control panel includes an LCD screen.

On the Cuisinart ice cream maker ICE-70 there are 3 settings just like the ICE-60 – ice cream, gelato and sorbet. In addition to the 3 settings it has a timer selection so you can manually change the countdown timer. And of course it has the start button.

The ice cream setting default is for 20 minutes, the gelato setting is for 30 minutes and the sorbet setting is for 40 minutes. However, you can override these times and use the timer for up to 60 minutes to churn your frozen dessert. Obviously it will depend on your ingredients. You can refer to the recipe.

The ICE-70 includes auto shutoff at the end of the timer. And it gives a beep to let you know it’s finished.

The housing is a brushed stainless steel. The clear plastic lid comes with a removable cup in the middle which can be lifted out to provide a spout to add mix-ins. The removable cup holds half a cup so you can use it to measure items like nuts or choc chips.

The ice cream bowl on the Cuisinart ice cream maker ICE-70 will need to go in your freezer for 24 hours before you make your ice cream. It holds 2 quarts, similar to the ICE-60.

Compare:   Cuisinart ICE-30 vs Cuisinart ICE-60W / ICE-70

Some people don’t like the way the ICE-30 is open at the top without a cover. The circle area in the top of the lid which allows you to pour into the bowl does not have a cover. The ICE-60W and ICE-70 have fixed this problem. They come with a removable cup which provides a spout for mix-ins to be added to your ice cream.

The ICE-30 only has one speed. The ICE-60W and ICE-70 have 3 settings for different speeds for different frozen desserts. The ice cream setting is a faster churning speed than the gelato and sorbet speeds.

The ICE-30 does not provide a countdown timer. The Cuisinart ICE-70 is the model with a countdown timer up to 60 minutes with auto shutoff.

The ICE-70 is the only model out of the three with a LCD display for the timer.

The ICE-30 has a turn dial to start it. The ICE-60W and ICE-70 have touch button controls to select the settings.

All three models provide 2 quart bowl capacity.

Compare:   Cuisinart ICE-60W vs Cuisinart ICE-70

Obviously the ICE-60W and the ICE-70 are very similar. The real difference is the countdown timer with auto shutoff.

I have seen the Cuisinart ice cream maker ICE-70 on sale so it is only about $17 more than the ICE-60. For an extra $17, I would get the ICE-70 ice cream machine. However, if the ICE-70 is back to a much higher price then go with the ICE-60W.

Personally I prefer the Cuisinart ICE-70 because it has the timer. I like to use timers on kitchen appliances because I get distracted by kids and pets in my home. If I know that the Cuisinart ice cream maker will go to auto shutoff at a certain time then it lets me focus on other things.

Compare:  Cuisinart ICE-70 vs Cuisinart ICE-100

The ICE-70 is loaded with features you won’t find on the other ice cream makers but it doesn’t have a built-in compressor like the ICE-100.

If you struggle to find room in your freezer to leave the bowl in overnight then you’d be better getting the ICE-100. There is no need to pre-freeze the bowl and everything is done in the ice cream machine itself.

If you want to save some money but still get all the bells and whistles then the ICE-70 is a great option. At the time of writing there was about $80 difference in price between the two models. The ICE-100 was over $200 for a new model on Amazon.

☑   Check today’s price on ICE-70 here

The ICE-70 comes with a 2-quart bowl whereas the ICE-100 only has a 1.5-quart bowl. Considering the size of your family, this size difference could be important.

If you’re looking at Cuisinart ice cream maker reviews on the ICE-70 vs ICE-100, you’ll want to see a comparison about the practical side of these ice cream machines…

When it comes to ice cream, you often want more.  If you want to make a second batch of ice cream in the ICE-100 this is easy to do with the same bowl. You simply make a second batch after completing the first (because the built-in compressor does all the chilling). However, in the ICE-70 you cannot make a second batch within 24 hours without having a second bowl. And the second bowl needs to have been in the freezer for 24 hours before using it.

With so many features the Cuisinart ICE-70 is a winner on price and functionality. It really comes down to whether you need an ice cream maker with a compressor. If not, the ICE-70 is a delight to use and it makes really good ice cream.

Both models churn the ice cream beautifully to make smooth creamy ice cream.

The Verdict

Quite clearly, I love the Cuisinart ICE-100. But an ice cream maker with a compressor is not for everyone. It is $200+ so if you can afford it, you know my opinion! Go for it.

If you’re on a budget I’d grab the Cuisinart ICE-21. Don’t even think about it any longer, just get it.

For the lower price you get ice cream made in 20 minutes and it’s delicious.

You also know what ingredients you’re putting into your ice cream and you can make gourmet frozen treats ready for when you finish dinner.

If you want the best features on your ice cream maker then you need to get the Cuisinart ice cream machine ICE-70.

This is a high quality machine with lots of features. And it has an advantage over the ICE-100 in that it holds 2 quarts, while the ICE-100 only holds 1.5 quarts!

Once you’ve made gelato at home in the Cuisinart ICE-70 ice cream maker you’ll wonder why you didn’t buy it sooner. The countdown timer and 3 settings make it so convenient. And with that brushed stainless appearance, it will look great in any home.

Ice Cream Tips: How to Get Hard Ice Cream

All of these Cuisinart ice cream makers will produce a soft consistency ice cream. If this is what you like you can eat it straight away. However, if you like a hard ice cream like you buy from the store then you’ll need to place your ice cream in the freezer after it finishes churning.

It may take 1-2 hours to really harden. It all depends on the temperature of your freezer.
